We like the dial to have a sense of humour. The process behind it does not. Every Off Dial is painted by hand from the first colour to the final detail. Each dial is individually worked, hand finished and carefully reassembled by hand.

Originally created as an exploration of repetition, colour and imperfection, The Outlier takes the clean white dial of the Citizen Tsuyosa and gives it a less predictable personality.
The dial is built around individually hand-painted blue circular marks, each with its own texture, depth and variation. Among them sits a single red mark — deliberately different, deliberately out of place. It is a small interruption that changes the whole composition.
That contrast is the point.
Every dial is painted and finished by hand, so the spacing, texture and character of the marks will naturally vary from watch to watch. The overall design remains recognisable, but no two examples will ever be completely identical.
Underneath the artwork is the Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic, chosen for its clean proportions, integrated stainless-steel bracelet and dependable automatic movement. The case, bracelet, movement and functional elements of the watch are carefully handled throughout the customisation process before the finished dial is reassembled into the watch.

Details
Deep Nebula was inspired by the colour, movement and scale of distant galaxies and nebulae — the kind of images that make a tiny part of the night sky feel almost endless.
We wanted to translate that sense of depth onto the dial, using layered turquoise, deep blue, violet, pink and orange to create swirling forms that feel alive rather than perfectly controlled.
Each dial is individually hand painted, so the galaxies, colour placement, texture and smaller details naturally vary from piece to piece. The composition remains recognisable, but every Deep Nebula develops its own character.
The Citizen branding, indices, hands and date window remain visually clear while the artwork moves around them, keeping the watch practical and readable while giving the dial its own energy.
Underneath the artwork is the Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic, with its stainless-steel case and integrated bracelet, automatic movement, date display and clean contemporary proportions. Each watch is sourced, carefully disassembled for the dial work, finished by hand and carefully reassembled before it leaves us.

The Off Dial story
We have fun with the dial. We do not mess about with the process. Each design follows a careful multi-stage process, but the artwork itself is painted by hand from start to finish. Every dial is individually worked, hand finished and carefully reassembled by hand.
Watches can be precise without being predictable. We take familiar, genuine watches and give the dial permission to misbehave a little. The colour, texture and tiny details are where the personality lives; the care taken around the watch is where our standards live.

From genuine watch to individual artwork
Every Off Dial begins with a genuine watch. Its case, movement and bracelet already have an identity; the dial is where we get to have some fun. Before any work starts, the watch is inspected and its original components are handled and retained with care.
This is not the bit for improvisation. The watch is carefully opened so we can reach the dial, with the hands, dial and surrounding components removed and kept safely together for reassembly. The goal is simple: give the artwork room to happen without treating the watch casually.
The original dial is cleaned and prepared for the layers to come. At this scale, a millimetre can change the whole composition, so placement, colour and the relationship between the artwork and the watch’s existing details are considered before the fun starts.

From this point onward, the design develops entirely through hand painting. Colour, texture and fine detail are worked individually, giving each finished dial its own character.
Hand painting is at the heart of Off Dial. Colour is developed, texture is built and fine details are worked into each dial individually. A highlight can change the movement of a wave; a deeper blue can change its depth. Every brushstroke adds something particular to the piece in front of the artist.
Even when two dials begin with the same design, the handwork takes each in its own direction. The texture, the colour and the smallest details vary from dial to dial. Those differences are part of what makes it an Off Dial.
Each dial is refined and finished by hand, with attention to the artwork, its edges and the details that bring the whole composition together. Indices and dial details are carefully attended to before reassembly. Playful does not mean slapdash; the small stuff matters.
The finished dial returns to its watch and the components are carefully reassembled by hand. The familiar shape remains, now carrying artwork with its own colour, texture and attitude. An Off Dial is made to be worn, lived with and enjoyed — not just looked at from a safe distance.
